Sokhu Pepper

On October 10, 2022, respected Comrade General Secretary Kim Jong Un attended the inauguration ceremony of the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm and cut off the inauguration tape.

Then he entered a block of greenhouses and looked at with bright smile on his face the pleasant scene of many peppers growing in thick verdure.

Carefully seeing pepper plants, he asked an official of the farm what kind of pepper it planted in the block.

After hearing the official's reply, the respected General Secretary told that in South Hamgyong Province, there was a hot pepper variety called "Sokhu pepper" in the past, and advised that the farm should plant various greenhouse vegetables including the said pepper.

Sokhu pepper was one of the pepper varieties that had long been widely cultivated in South Hamgyong Province and used in the diet of the Korean people. Provincial people would say that the well-known starch noodle at the Sinhung Restaurant is unthinkable apart from the peculiar taste of Sokhu pepper.

But, the areas under cultivation of Sokhu pepper, one of the province's specialties, had gradually decreased since the arduous period when the country was in difficulty, and it became hard to hear such name with the passage of time.

The pepper, which had disappeared even from the memory of the provincial people, was kept in the mind of the General Secretary and became a vegetable variety that should be planted at the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm.

Afterwards, the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm have planted Sokhu peppers in blocks of greenhouses and cultivated them to increase the yield, and provincial people were deeply moved by the loving care of the respected General Secretary. -0-
