Rodong Sinmun on Spirit of Self-reliance

Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- Self-reliance is the source of invincibility of the revolutionary cause of Juche, the cornerstone of the dignity and mightiness of our state, and the mode of existence and law of victory peculiar to our people, says Rodong Sinmun in an editorial article on Monday.

Self-reliance is the invincible force firmly guaranteeing the existence and development of the state and people, the article says, and goes on:

The DPRK is the homeland of the great Juche idea and a country leading the people in the spirit of self-reliance. The Korean revolution proved the truth of self-reliance during the severe struggle spanning a century. The revolutionary line of self-reliance was consistently maintained in every period and at every stage of the Korean revolution. In the course history verified the line thoroughly. And its invincible might has been proved in practice by successfully carrying out the toughest tasks which were considered impossible according to the existing knowledge.

We accomplished by ourselves the cause of building the Party, state and army in the period of building a new country when everything had to be done from scratch, thus laying a firm foundation for building an independent and sovereign state. We built a state independent in politics, self-supporting in the economy and self-reliant in national defence through the great Chollima upsurge on the debris after the war. These precious fruits could not have been achieved if we had relied on others' strength.

The great era of Kim Jong Un is the revolutionary dynamic one when the spirit and might of self-reliance are being fully displayed and the greatest era of self-respect and the heyday of self-development bringing about epoch-making miracles and changes with its absolute strength.

Independence and self-respect are the first and foremost revolutionary principles clarified by the revolutionary idea of the great Comrade Kim Jong Un, and his mode of revolutionary leadership is to achieve the prosperity and development of the state and the people's wellbeing by dint of self-reliance and self-sustenance.

The arduous course of achieving prosperity in the spirit of self-reliance is associated with the indefatigable thinking, painstaking efforts and powerful and clever leadership of the peerless patriot to further strengthen the driving forces and fully display the advantages and potentials of our social system.

Self-reliance precisely means national power, sovereign rights and national prestige.

We have the foundations of self-sustenance, rich experience of struggle and correct practical strategies which have been consolidated for a long time.

The key to the struggle for self-reliance in the new era lies in the Juche-oriented theory of giving importance to ideology.

The cause of self-reliance is pioneered and advanced with the idea of self-respect.

The principle of self-development first precisely means attaching importance to science and technology. This is the consistent line and policy of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Self-reliance is the most vivid expression of patriotism in the present era. All the sectors and regions should be self- supporting and turn into the bases of self-reliance, and all the working people should make a tangible contribution to the independent development of the country.

We have the great history shining with advance and victories and numerous monumental edifices built in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and fortitude. Ahead of us, there is the great superpower, which will thrive forever in the spirit of self-respect and self-sustenance.
