25 Objects Registered as Parts of National or Regional Intangible Cultural Heritage in DPRK

Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- The DPRK's historical-heritage protection field has recently registered 25 objects as parts of national or regional intangible cultural heritage, according to Rodong Sinmun. Nineteen of them are parts of national intangible cultural heritage.

The customs of using chestnuts and wild fruits were placed on the list of national intangible cultural heritage.

Songchon chestnut and Kumya large chestnut were popular among the Koreans from olden times.

They also used wild fruits as food and medicines.

The Korean tune is also a part of the national intangible cultural heritage. It is very attractive as it makes people feel so happy that they break into dance.

There are also the Ondal Tale, which was told in the Pyongyang area and other parts of Koguryo Kingdom, and tales about native places created in Kaesong and handed down through the generations.

Among national intangible cultural heritage are pickled fish, rice and pine-nut porridge.

Roasted shellfish and gizzard shads and Jangsangot Ballad were registered as parts of regional intangible cultural heritage. -0-
