Samgwang Livestock Farm in DPRK Profits from Indoor Stockbreeding

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- Indoor stockbreeding is encouraged in the DPRK as it has not many pastures.

The Samgwang Livestock Farm of the North Phyongan Provincial Rural Economy Committee, inaugurated in February, is profiting from indoor stockbreeding.

According to the farm manager Choe Myong Hak, the rearing of livestock in buildings makes it possible to save lots of manpower, plots and feed, produce milk in all seasons and prevent food poisoning and parasitic diseases caused by pasturing.

He says that indoor stockbreeding is suitable for introducing standard raising technologies and advanced management methods.

Its branch farm No. 1 uses a RFID device for each animal and data from the analysis of assorted feed ingredients, thus assessing the daily amount of nutritive substance needed by every animal and scientifically fixing the appropriate mixing rate and amount of feed for each strain, season and state of growth. Such information is transferred to the feed processing plant.

The farm has established an automatic control system of measuring the temperature, humidity, gas density, etc. in real time to create the most favorable growth conditions.

The raisers, who used to graze their livestock in the mountains in sultry weather or rainstorm, now raise the animals in sci-tech, industrial ways through the control system in modern animal sheds. As the indoor raising method develops on a higher IT and intelligent footing, stockbreeding is put on a more scientific, intensive and specialized basis to make big profits.

They say that the method lowers the energy consumption among animals and makes it possible to produce much more milk and lengthen the milking time with the same amount of feed.

The farm has a modern workshop for producing dairy products such as yogurt and cheese.

It has also begun to make cream butter and others, thus expanding the variety of dairy products by three times, as compared with its early days of operation.
