State Academic Degrees and Titles Conferred on Intellectuals

Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- Academic degrees and titles of the DPRK were conferred on intellectuals, who made valuable research achievements true to the Workers' Party of Korea's idea of attaching importance to science and technology and greatly contributed to the economic development, the improvement of people's living standards and the education for rising generation of the country.

An awarding ceremony took place on September 16, with the attendance of Vice-Premier of the Cabinet Jon Sung Guk and intellectuals.

After a decision of the State Commission for Conferment of Academic Degrees and Titles of the DPRK was read out, the title of academician was awarded to Jo Hui Sung, a researcher of the History Institute of the Academy of Social Sciences.

Professorship went to Jang Song Chol, dean of a faculty of Kim Il Sung University, Wang Sang Dok, head of a department of the university, Choe Yong Muk, a researcher of Kim Chaek University of Technology, Jong Nam Hun, deputy head of a department of Pyongyang University of Medicine, Yang Hye Yong, head of a department of Pyongyang Han Tok Su University of Light Industry, So Song Il, director of an institute of the Academy of Social Sciences, Ri Myong Hwan, section chief of the State Academy of Sciences, Han Hyon, head of a department of Wonsan Jong Jun Thaek University of Economics and its instructor Choe Yong Nam and Kim Yong Su, a researcher of the Hamhung Branch of the State Academy of Sciences.

Doctorate went to 86 persons, including Dean of a faculty Kim Chol Hak, Vice Dean of a faculty Choe Song Jup, Director of an institute Kye Un Chol, Head of an office Om Song Jin, heads of departments U Song Sop and Ri Kyong Il and section chief Kim Hyon Il of Kim Il Sung University.
