Sci-tech Achievements Made in Second-stage Project of Construction of Tanchon Power Station

Pyongyang, July 18 (KCNA) -- Members of the February 17 Shock Brigade of Scientists and Technicians dispatched to the construction of the Tanchon Power Station are giving scientific and technological support to the second-stage project of the construction.

The scientists from Kim Il Sung University made a survey of the foundation of the relevant generator hall, thus opening up a prospect for successfully pushing forward the project.

Scientists and technicians of Kim Chaek University of Technology and Pyongyang University of Architecture invented and introduced modern instruments to provide a scientific and technological guarantee for assessing the stability of the dam of the power station.

Researchers of Phyongsong University of Coal Mining solved technical problems arising in improving the efficiency of tunneling and blasting, thus saving a lot of materials and manpower. And the Tanchon Mining Research Institute under the General Bureau of the Tanchon Area Mining Industry completed the technology of blasting for reducing vibration in waterway tunnel and introduced it into various construction units.

Scientists and technicians of various units including the Electricity Institute and the Dynamics Institute of the State Academy of Sciences made a scientific survey of the waterway tunnel and pit, established a new construction method for the basic construction of generator hall and worked out a design of tractor with improved carrying capacity. -0-
