Kangryong Masked Dance

Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- The Kangryong masked dance, one of the Korean people's valuable dance legacies, has been handed down through generations in the Kangryon area, South Hwanghae Province, the DPRK.

Masked dance was commonly popular in such areas as Pongsan and Haeju as those areas were the centers of commerce with a developed network of roads and rich products. But such dance could be developed in the small county of Kangryong as there were many talented artistes in the area.

The Kangryong masked dance consists of eight parts. The dancers used to burn masks after their performances.

The dance has many duet forms.

The dance was registered as a part of the national intangible cultural heritage in March 2016. -0-
