Paduk - Intangible Cultural Heritage of DPRK

Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Paduk is a folk game made by the resourceful and talented Korean people.

Paduk based on the ancient people's view on space has been handed down for a long time.

The flat board symbolizes the land, the square shape of the board means spring, summer, autumn and winter, and 361 intersections of the horizontal and vertical lines signify one year.

The intersection on the center of the board was called the "Chonwonjom" because the ancient people believed that the earth was the center of the universe.

The round Paduk stones symbolize the round universe. Black and white stones are symbolic of day and night.

Paduk was registered as a part of the national intangible cultural heritage in May 2014. -0-
