Military Miracles in Fatherland Liberation War

Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- Heroic sailors of the Korean People's Army won victory at the naval battle in the waters off Jumunjin in the past Fatherland Liberation War.

At that time, world people said that it is a miracle, not a battle to sink a heavy cruiser with torpedo boats and it is the greatest miracle that cannot be seen in the world history of naval battles.

On June 30, 1950, President Kim Il Sung, who led the operation for liberating Seoul to victory, called a commanding officer of the navy and gave an instruction to annihilate a group of warships of the U.S. imperialist aggression army in the East Sea with four torpedo boats of the Second Torpedo Boat Squadron.

At that time, the group of warships of the U.S. imperialists consisted of a heavy cruiser "Baltimore", a light cruiser and an ocean destroyer. They mounted nearly 200 guns of various kinds and 3 350-odd seamen.

In contrast with this, the torpedo boat squadron of the KPA was one four hundred and fortieth in armed equipment of the enemy and one hundred and fifth in personnel.

The difference between the torpedo boat and the enemy's heavy cruiser in displacement was 1:1 000.

The President told the commanding officer who was astonished at the huge force difference that if the KPA sailors used tactics well, they could annihilate the group of warships of the U.S. imperialists as the sailors were thoroughly prepared politically and ideologically.

He gave detailed instructions on the enemies' weaknesses, tactical measure for striking them suddenly and time for launching attack.

At dawn of July 2, the KPA sailors launched an attack on the group of the U.S. warships in the waters off Jumunjin. They bravely fought with only four torpedo boats by skillfully applying the tactics of close-range, surprise strike and allurement as indicated by the President to sink the heavy cruiser boasting of being a "moving island" to the bottom of the sea and destroy the light cruiser.

The victory at the naval battle in the waters off Jumunjin contributed to the successful battles of the combined infantry units of the People's Army advancing along the east coast. -0-
