Korean Chess, Intangible Cultural Heritage

Pyongyang, September 28 (KCNA) -- Korean chess is one of the intelligence games popular among the Korean people.

The Korean chess with a long history is characterized by its simplicity and clarity in intuition.

The size of the board and lines and shapes of pieces are aesthetically matching well. The color of the letters on the pieces of one side is in contrast to those of other side, and the regular moves of the pieces give intuition and visual stability.

The playing system and modes are diverse and unique.

The whole process of playing chess is divided into the phase of disposition of pieces, to-and-fro phase and the phase of finishing. There are countless tactical methods applied to each phase.

The Korean chess was registered as a national intangible cultural heritage in October 2017. -0-
