Steps Taken to Put Cage-net Fish Farming and Sea Urchins Aquaculture on Scientific Basis

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- According to Minju Joson, the Ministry of Fisheries in the DPRK concentrates efforts on the cage-net fish farming and sea urchins aquaculture with good prospect and high economic efficiency.

The ministry has taken measures to supply to the Ongjin West Sea Fish Farm the materials necessary for manufacturing and repairing net cages and, at the same time, strived to explore and introduce advanced fish farming methods related to the artificial collection of eggs and breeding of fry in connection with the Academy of Fishery Science.

It is making efforts to conduct cage-net fish farming in rivers, lakes and reservoirs.

It has ensured that provinces, cities and counties intensify technical guidance and assistance to the cage-net fish farming units in introducing scientific fish farming methods suited to the physiological and ecological characteristics of fishes.

More than 100 000 square meters of net cages have been installed in suitable areas across the country and millions of young fishes bred there.

The ministry dispatches groups of researchers of the Academy of Fishery Sciences to various units in the east and west seas to reaffirm the places suited to sea urchin farming and solve the sci-tech problems arising in artificial breeding and aquaculture of sea urchins.

It is also concentrating efforts on solving the technical problems arising in the sea urchin farming. -0-
