Paddy-field Fish Breeding Brisk in Rural Areas of DPRK

Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- Farms in South Hwanghae Province are bringing good results by putting paddy-field fish farming on a scientific and intensive basis.

The Samjigang Farm in Jaeryong County has increased the fish farming area this year, too, on the basis of last year's successes and experience, and released into fields hundreds of thousands of young catfish produced at the breeding grounds. It ensured good growth of paddy rice, using almost no fertilizer and pesticides and produced tens of tons of catfish.

Many farms in the province have made successes in paddy-field fish farming by introducing advanced farming techniques.

They are making mixed feed to lower the level of grain feed consumption and resolving the shortage of feed with mud snail.

They are properly selecting the fish breeding areas appropriate in terms of water resources, water quality, irrigation, drainage and soil quality, and ensuring the natural and artificial feed supply and catfish breeding in a scientific and technological way.

They are putting efforts into sci-tech study for fish farming in paddy fields to reduce the breeding period of catfish and increase the rate of their growth, thus reaping bumper harvest. -0-
