Military Miracles in Fatherland Liberation War
Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- The "general Christmas offensive," which the U.S. imperialists had frantically prepared with their huge ground, naval and air forces, was brought to total bankruptcy by the Juche-oriented military tactics and commanding art of President
In late October 1950, the U.S. imperialists failed to realize their ambition for occupying whole Korea before Thanksgiving due to the Korean People's Army's strike. Then they attempted to launch a large-scale "general Christmas offensive" in November.
The "general Christmas offensive" was a plan of attack for "concluding the war" by occupying the areas of the Amnok and Tuman rivers before Christmas.
To this end, the U.S. imperialists brought five corps to the front and bragged about numerical and technical superiority.
To cope with the enemy's "general offensive", the President set forth the policy of the second-round operation for the third stage of the war. With the main strike direction fixed in the western sector of the front, the policy called for launching counterattack in all sectors of the front, encircling and annihilating the main groups of the enemy and liberating the whole area of the DPRK through joint operations of the main units of the People's Army and the second front units.
The President set the night of November 25, a day after the enemy's start of the "general offensive" in the western sector of the front, as the counterattack time. He made sure that the combined units in the eastern sector of the front launched successive counterattacks, following the combined units in the western sector of the front expanding achievements in the main strike direction.
When the enemy launched the "general offensive", the units of the People's Army in the main strike direction of the front responded with a counteroffensive. The People's Army encircled and annihilated the enemy forces under the U.S. Eighth Army, including the U.S. First and Ninth Corps, by driving them into the upper reaches of the Chongchon and Taedong rivers, thus pushing the main enemy forces in the western sector of the front to the brink of total ruin.
The units of the People's Army in the eastern sector of the front also encircled and annihilated through assault and ambush the main forces of the U.S. Tenth Corps, including the First Division of the U.S. Marines, near Lake Jangjin.
Steadily expanding the gains, the units of the People's Army annihilated the enemy in cooperation with the second front units in the rear of the enemy, smashed the U.S. imperialists' "general Christmas offensive" until December 24 that year and achieved such a proud success as liberating the whole territory of the Republic.
After all, the "general Christmas offensive" prepared by the U.S. imperialists with much effort ended in their general retreat. For this, MacArthur, commander of the U.S. forces in the Far East and commander of the "UN forces," was given the "honour" of dismissal, and Smith, commander of the First Division of the U.S. Marines, who had most of his officers and soldiers buried on the shore of Lake Jangjin, was given such disgraceful title as "grave general". -0-
