Meeting Held to Mark 80th Founding Anniversary of JUK

Pyongyang, October 10 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held at the People's Palace of Culture on October 9 to mark the 80th anniversary of the Journalists Union of Korea.

Present there were officials concerned, officials of the JUK Central Committee, employees of the union, and officials and journalists and other media persons of media organs in Pyongyang.

Pak Tong Sok, chairman of the JUK Central Committee, made a commemorative report.

The 80-year history of the union is a history of glory shining with the undying exploits of the peerlessly great men, the reporter said.

He noted that President Kim Il Sung, who pioneered the precious tradition of Juche-oriented media in the flames of the anti-Japanese revolution and established the Journalists Union on October 11, 1946 on the basis of the founding of new Korea's newspaper offices, publishing houses and broadcasting stations right after national liberation, and clearly indicated the path to be followed by journalists and other media persons in each period and at each stage of the developing revolution.

In his historic concluding speech made at the enlarged meeting of the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Third Central Committee of the Journalists Union of Korea on May 7, 1974, Chairman Kim Jong Il clarified the important guidelines for improving the work of the Journalists Union and made sure that the union invariably preserve its revolutionary character, the reporter recalled.

The reporter said that the JUK is greeting a new heyday of its development in the new era of the Juche revolution, adding that respected Comrade Kim Jong Un has further developed it into a powerful revolutionary organization and vanguard ranks boundlessly loyal to the ideas and cause of the Party.

It is the basic task and duty of the union to prepare leading editorial officials, journalists and other media persons to be ideological guards, loyal to the ideas and leadership of the Party and possessed of high political insight and writing ability, the report said, calling for making fresh innovations and progress in the media work.

The reporter called upon all the officials, journalists and other media persons to stay single-mindedly loyal to the ideas and leadership of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un and to fulfill their honorable duty in the struggle for the comprehensive development of Korean-style socialism. -0-
