Title of Model County in Afforestation Awarded

Pyongyang, July 15 (KCNA) -- Hoechang County in South Phyongan Province of the DPRK has made successes in afforestation and forest conservation.

The county built a greenhouse with plastic sheets and a parent nursery and produced millions of saplings on the average every year.

Working people in the county created large forests of Larix lepolepis, pine-nut trees, chestnut trees and Evodia daniellii Benn, formed a firebreak extending dozens of kilometers and set up more than 500 posts for monitoring forest-fire. It also produced lots of bio-insecticide to minimize the damage from harmful insects, and carried out the anti-land-sliding project in a responsible manner.

The county made achievements and gained experience in afforestation and forest conservation and more than 120 units in the county were awarded the title of Socialist Patriotic Forest.

On the spot, there took place a ceremony of awarding the county the title of Model County in Afforestation.

Read out at the ceremony was a decree of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK and a citation was conferred on the county.
