Kumya Ginkgo Tree
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- At Anbul Temple, a historical site in Tonghung-ri, Kumya County, South Hamgyong Province of the DPRK, there is a tree called Kumya ginkgo.
This largest and oldest tree in the country is designated as a natural monument of high academic value.
The tree more than 2 130 years old is about 40 meters high, 16 meters wide in its root neck, 15 meters wide in the middle, 37 meters wide in the crown of its east and west and 40 meters wide in its north and south and 1 800 square meters in the area of shade.
It is now in good health against its age, and bears hundreds of kilograms of fruit every year and its fallen leaves in autumn amount to about two tons.
The Kumya ginkgo tree looks like a small mountain in the distance. It makes people feel themselves in a deep forest.
