Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- Following are major news items and articles in leading newspapers of the DPRK on Thursday:

- A party and government delegation of the People's Republic of China arrived here.

- Jo Yong Won, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, had talks with Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

- The Chinese party and government delegation laid a flower basket at the Friendship Tower.

- The participants in the Eighth Congress of the Socialist Women's Union of Korea and other women's union members gathered to make a pledge and enjoy a large chorus performance.

- The artistic information team of the C.C., SWUK and art group members of the women's union gave an art performance to mark the Eighth Congress of the SWUK.

- The Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK issued a decree on awarding the title of model law-observance unit to exemplary units in strengthening the socialist law observance.

- State academic degrees and titles were conferred on intellectuals.

- Young people in North Hamgyong Province volunteered for worksites of socialist construction.
