Pyongyang, July 15 (KCNA) -- Following are major news items and articles in leading newspapers of the DPRK on Wednesday:

- A delegation and a home-visiting group of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan visited the statues of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il on Mansu Hill and made bows to them.

- The Eighth Congress of the Socialist Women's Union of Korea (SWUK) took place.

- The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea sent a congratulatory letter to the participants in the Eighth Congress of the SWUK and all other women's union members.

- The Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK issued a decree on awarding the title of Socialist Patriotic Forest to exemplary units.

- A delegation and a home-visiting group of Chongryon arrived here.

- A home-visiting group of Korean high school students in Japan left here.

- Successes are being made in different units.

- A party and government delegation of the People's Republic of China is to pay an official goodwill visit to the DPRK.

- Lecturers at the Fatherland Liberation War Historic Site toured different parts of Kangwon Province to give lectures.
