Great Man who Realized Women's Long-cherished Desire

Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- It has been 80 years since President Kim Il Sung promulgated the Law on Sex Equality.

From the first period when he embarked on the road of the revolution, he put forward the issue of women as one of the fundamental problems arising in the social revolution and made great efforts to settle it.

During the days of the anti-Japanese war, he saw to it that the Anti-Japanese Women's Association, a revolutionary women's mass organization, was organized and set an example of sex equality and women's emancipation in the guerrilla bases and the ranks of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army and thus gave birth to the Juche-oriented Korean women's movement.

After the liberation of the country, he set the issue of realizing the women's social emancipation and sex equality as a task to be solved without fail in the anti-imperialist, anti-feudal democratic revolution and clarified it in the political line of the Party. He saw to it that women's organization was formed for the first time among social organizations and led women to take an active part in settling the issue of women's emancipation.

Whenever the different democratic reforms were enforced, he made sure that women received the land with the same right with men and had the right equal to men even in labor life and mothers receive various privileges.

On July 30, 1946, he promulgated the Law on Sex Equality on the basis of laying a foundation for solving the issue of women.

The promulgation of the Law on Sex Equality enabled the DPRK women to emerge proudly before the times and history as the master of the country and powerful force pushing one of the two wheels of the revolutionary chariot, free from the feudal fetters which had tied them generation after generation. -0-
