Tenth Congress of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea Held
Pyongyang, November 8 (KCNA) -- The Tenth Congress of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea took place in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, on November 6 and 7.
The congress analyzed and reviewed the work done by the UAWK during the period under review, and discussed and decided the practical tasks and ways for satisfactorily fulfilling its mission and role as an organization for ideological education in carrying out the decisions of the Party Congress by fundamentally improving its work as required by the times of comprehensive development.
Attending the congress were members of the ninth-term UAWK central leadership body and delegates elected by the UAWK organization at all levels.
Present there as observers were officials of the Party, armed forces organs, ministries and national agencies and those concerned.
The platform was taken by Jo Yong Won, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Ju Chang Il, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the WPK Central Committee, Ju Chol Gyu, department director of the WPK Central Committee, Ri Chol Man, vice-premier of the Cabinet and chairman of the Agricultural Commission, executive members of the UAWK Central Committee, chairpersons of the UAWK provincial committees, exemplary UAWK officials and members and officials concerned.
When the congress declared open, the DPRK national anthem was played.
The congress elected the presidium and the secretariat.

Jo Yong Won read out the congratulatory letter of the WPK Central Committee to the participants in the Tenth Congress of the UAWK and all the UAWK members.
Stating that our UAWK members have been trained to be the socialist agricultural workers, patriotic farmers faithful to their class mission and duty and the militant spirit and confidence of those determined to open up an era when the countryside undergoes transformation as intended by the Party evolved into the popular thoughts and sentiments, the letter appreciated that it is the most important change during the period under review and the most proper evaluation of the work of the ninth-term UAWK.
The letter indicated the main tasks faced by the UAWK to encourage the agricultural workers to turn out in the campaign to make proud successes and bring out changes, and the ways to do so.
Han Jong Hyok, chairman of the UAWK Central Committee made a report on the first agenda item.
The reporter reviewed the work of the UAWK during the period under review.

The report referred to the fact that the UAWK Central Committee and organizations at all levels engaged in different mass movements to inspire the agricultural workers with self-consciousness of being masters in charge of farming and enthusiasm for increased production while giving definite precedence to the ideological work.
The reporter emphasized that all the successes made during the period under review are entirely the brilliant fruition of the wise guidance of the respected Comrade General Secretary who has led the UAWK to perform its mission and duty as a vanguard unit in implementing the programme for the rural revolution in the new era.
He ardently called upon all to dynamically struggle for the successful implementation of the programme for the rural revolution in the new era and the prosperity of the DPRK, our glorious motherland, along the bright course indicated by the Ninth Congress of the WPK.
Speeches were made on the first agenda item.
Oral and written speeches were made by Ri Kum Hui, delegate of the North Phyongan Provincial Committee of the UAWK, O Myong Guk, delegate of the Pyongyang Municipal Committee of the UAWK, Kang Chol, delegate of the South Hwanghae Provincial Committee of the UAWK, and many other delegates.
The congress discussed the revision of the Rules of the UAWK as the second agenda item.
There was a report on it.
The reporter explained the contents of the rules to be revised and supplemented.
Saying that the revised rules would make a positive contribution to demonstrating the might of the UAWK in every way, he submitted them for deliberation at the congress.
The congress adopted a decision on the revision of the UAWK Rules with unanimous approbation.
The congress discussed the election of the UAWK central leadership body as the third agenda item.
First, the Central Committee of the UAWK was elected.
All the recommended candidates were elected members and alternate members of the UAWK Central Committee with the unanimous approval of the delegates.
The First Plenary Meeting of the Tenth Central Committee of the UAWK was held.
Ju Chang Il, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, informed the participants of the decision of the plenary meeting.
The Executive Committee of the UAWK Central Committee was elected.
Han Jong Hyok was elected chairman of the UAWK Central Committee and Yun Chol, O Myong Guk and Ji Song Nam were elected vice-chairmen.
The Organizing Committee of the UAWK Central Committee was formed.
The chairman, vice-chairmen and members of the Central Inspection Commission of the UAWK were elected.
Department directors of the UAWK Central Committee were appointed.
The congress elected a committee for drafting the resolution of the congress with members of the newly elected tenth-term central leadership body of the UAWK, and the committee deliberated the realistic and constructive opinions raised by delegates and supplemented the draft resolution with them.
The resolution of the Tenth Congress of the UAWK was adopted with unanimous approval.
