DPRK's Manwoldae - Part of World Cultural Heritage

Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- Manwoldae, located at the southern foot of Mt Songak in Kaesong Municipality of the DPRK, is the site of the royal palace in the period of Koryo dynasty.

Koryo, founded in 918, built a large royal palace there in the following year.

The palace has a floor space of 1 250 000 square meters, and Kungsong covers an area of about 390 000 square meters.

Kungsong had king's palaces and Hwangsong central office buildings.

The main gate of Hwangsong was Kwanghwamun in the east, and there were Thaehwa Gate and Jangchu Gate in the north, Yongchu Gate in the west and Jujak Gate in the south. The main gate of Kungsong was Sungphyong Gate in the south.

Manwoldae is a valuable part of cultural heritage of the DPRK as it shows the creative talents and wisdom of the people of Koryo which inherited Koguryo through the size and layout of the royal palace, the plane structure of buildings and building materials. -0-
