Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- The Mt Paektu area of the DPRK has abundant tourist resources.
The area presents peculiar scenery with its natural resources of tourism such as geological and topographical wonders produced by several volcanic eruptions, the distinct fauna and flora in the alpine environment and the eye-catching hydrologic movement in Lake Chon on the top of Mt Paektu.
Also available in the area are geological resources and various ecological resources of tourism, characterized by its special topography.
The area was registered as a global geopark in April 2025 and this highlighted its geological significance and high value in terms of tourism, providing good conditions for geological tourism.
It was included in the list of world network of biosphere reserves in April 1989. The primeval forests endlessly stretching at the foot of Mt Paektu satisfy those who like to camp in nature.
The area is also rich in resources of meteorological and climatic tourism. The meteorological and climatic tourism resources are available for sightseeing and climatotherapy.
Typically, the sunrise and double rainbow on Mt Paektu and waterspout in Lake Chon on its top are rare to be seen in other tourist resorts.
Its alpine climate is good for physical fitness, skincare, treatment of neuralgia and respiratory diseases and prevention of aging.
In addition, there are such resources of tourism as the Paektu Hot Spring for spa therapy and the Phothae area favorable for skiing.
The area of Mt Paektu is renowned for an organic combination of such peculiar factors of ecosystem, alongside its spectacular historic, cultural and traditional background. -0-
