Munphyong Smeltery in DPRK Boosts Lead and Zinc Production

Pyongyang, May 22 (KCNA) -- The Munphyong Smeltery in the DPRK is increasing the output.

The smeltery set a higher goal for technical upgrading on the basis of the successes and experience gained in last year's readjustment and reinforcement of equipment, and is now carrying on it.

It is fulfilling its monthly and quarterly plans for producing lead and zinc by revitalizing the operation of the calcination-sulfuric acid production line and managing equipment and improving technical control according to the processes. And it is also pressing ahead with the strengthening of its material and technical foundations.

The workers in charge of the production of lead increased the lead output of an electric furnace 1.3 times, as against last year by pushing ahead with the work of improving the performance of the electric furnace with their own efforts and technology.

Officials and workers in the field of zinc production, too, established the line of producing zinc oxide by a rotary kiln, and boosted electrolytic zinc output more than two times than before.

The smeltery updated the computer control system for production lines and took technical measures to increase crude lead production by an electric furnace. It also opened up a prospect of using locally available raw and other materials and recycling waste materials. It is stepping up the installation of the dust collection process to improve the working conditions and environment. -0-
