Pyongyang, November 9 (KCNA) -- The Kim Jong Thae Electric Locomotive Complex is a vehicle producing base leading the country's railway modernization.

The workers of the factory won the first place in the review of the national emulation movement for increased production in 1946, received a silk banner, and over-fulfilled the first national economic plan for 1947 by 140 percent.
During the Fatherland Liberation War, they repaired 1 070 wagons and over 20 locomotives, thus contributing to the victory in the war.
They manufactured the first electric locomotive, "Red Flag" No. 1.
The complex has grown to be a powerful vehicle producer which manufactured 160 electric locomotives, 255 diesel locomotives and 170-odd railway carriages during the First Seven-Year Plan alone and won the title of the first Chollima Factory in the railway transport sector in November 1972.
In the period of the Arduous March, it transformed more than 20 diesel locomotives into electric ones.

The workers, entrusted with the task to produce Korean-style subway train in the shortest possible time by the respected General Secretary, completed the production of modern subway train in a short span of 80-odd days and ensured its normal operation, developed and produced subway trains with improved performance and manufactured modern vehicles including six-axles alternating current locomotives to contribute to the modernization of railways.
In order to implement the maintenance and reinforcement strategy set forth by the Eighth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, the complex built a reliable foundation for the growth of production both in quality and quantity by securing jigs and equipment and expanding locomotive manufacturing and repair capacity.
