One day in October Juche 51 (1962), the election of deputies to the 3rd Supreme People's Assembly took place.

President Kim Il Sung was going to leave for a polling booth early in the morning. Before taking his car, he suddenly told an accompanying official that he forgot to bring his citizen's certificate.

The official seemed perplexed as all the people knew the President and it didn't matter whether he brought his citizenship card or not.

The President said that he was also a citizen of the Republic and he was obliged to abide by the law instituted by the country before anything else, adding that he had never thought of himself as a special being lording it over the people. Then he again underlined the need to bring his citizen's certificate.

The official was deeply moved by the President's modest and humble traits.

After arriving at the polling booth, the President showed his citizen's certificate and took part in the election.

The story tells about the noble popular traits of the President who regarded himself as an ordinary citizen and refused to enjoy any privileges and preferential treatment. -0-
