Pyongyang, July 1 (KCNA) -- Culture of the River Taedong proves the superiority of the Korean nation who has created and developed an excellent culture from the dawning of human history development.
The Taedong River basin with crystal river courses, broad and fertile plain, rich products and warm temperature has become one of the cradles of mankind and human culture as a place good to live in from ancient times.
The basin was the cradle where Korean ancestors had lived through the successive stage of human evolution and the place where the early culture of mankind began.
The Komunmoru relics where primitive men had lived more than one million years ago were unearthed in Huku-ri, Sangwon County long ago. In addition, fossils of Paleolithic men called "Ryokpho man" and "Tokchon man" and fossils of Neolithic men called "Sungrisan man" and "Mandal man" were unearthed in the basin.
The basin is the home of the Koreans, the descendants of Neolithic men belonging to the late Paleolithic period who had lived in this place. They had developed from a very early period the culture of the Neolithic Age based on agricultural culture, and the culture of the Bronze Age with a high level of metal culture.
They acquired metallurgical techniques in the course of their production activities and, on its basis, made bronze stronger than pure copper by alloying tin with copper, thus creating a bronze culture.
From the period of the first Korean state founded by King Tangun, gold products had been produced by means of metal art processing by sheet and amalgamation process.
More than 14 000 dolmens had been distributed in the basin of the River Taedong until the mid-1990s.
Engraved on hundreds of lid stones are pictures of constellations. From this point of view, the basin of the River Taedong draws attention as the cradle of ancient astronomy.
The inhabitants of the basin had used the Sinji characters, one of the criteria for judging the level of ancient cultural development.
In the basin favourable for farming, the Korean ancestors cultivated rice, foxtail millet, bean and kaoliang by using farming tools at that time. Korea is widely known to the world as the origin of bean.
In the 1990s, the History Society of the DPRK named this ancient culture centered on Pyongyang the Culture of the River Taedong. -0-
