Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- A spokesperson of the Korea Association for Human Rights Studies issued the following press statement on May 23:

A plenary meeting was convened at the venue of the UN General Assembly on May 20 to discuss the "human rights issue" of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

At the meeting, the U.S., the ROK and other hostile forces committed a heinous politically-motivated provocation of viciously picking on the human rights situation in the DPRK by putting forward the quasi "human rights" plot-breeding organizations.

The Korean Association for Human Rights Studies bitterly denounces and rejects the plot to convene the meeting as a wanton contravention of the UN Charter and international law which stipulate respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs and a grave violation of the dignity and sovereignty of our state.

More than 80 years have passed since the UN was founded and 70-odd years have passed since the World Declaration of Human Rights was adopted. But the UN has never been openly used as an arena for confrontation, plot and fabrication by the specific forces seeking to overthrow the system of a sovereign state as today.

The fact that the meeting was convened on the basis of all sorts of lies and fabricated data cooked up by the "human rights" servants backed by the hostile states including the U.S. and the ROK to earn a dirty living fully proves its illegal and conspiratorial nature.

No matter how desperately the hostile forces may try to confuse right and wrong by mobilizing even a handful of human scum, the fair international community's appreciation can never be changed and the Korean people's confidence in the socialist system guaranteeing genuine human rights can never be undermined.

Is there any country in the world like the DPRK to legalize and make it rule to enforce policies for the well-being of the people and children including free medical care, free supply of houses, free education, school uniforms, school things and dairy products?

It is only the DPRK where the elderly, orphans and disabled people, who are called delicate strata of society, are living without any worries under the care of the state, and many flood victims who have lost their homes come to the capital city to receive special treatment.

It is the DPRK where the standard of human rights is enforced which is far exceeding the standards of the World Declaration of Human Rights and international human rights conventions specifying the rights to existence, education, development and other universal rights.

The international norms and order, which were enacted and have been desired for the just cause of respecting the sovereignty of each nation and defending global peace and security, are completely being collapsed due to the high-handed and reckless acts of the hegemonic forces. This present reality once again makes us keep in mind the immutable truth that the protection of the sovereignty and dignity of a state and the peace and wellbeing of the people are guaranteed only by the powerful strength capable of defending itself.

The malicious acts of some countries which blindly followed the hostile forces to slander the most popular and just social system of the DPRK will be thoroughly taken into account.

The protection of human rights precisely means the protection of the sovereign rights.

The DPRK will never overlook the heinous "human rights" smear campaign of the hostile forces totally denying the ideology and system of the dignified DPRK and inciting the overthrow of the state, but further put spurs to the exercise of its sovereign rights for defending the dignity of the state and the people and protecting the genuine human rights. -0-
