500 000-odd Salmon Fry Released in DPRK

Pyongyang, June 8 (KCNA) -- This year, more than 500 000 salmon fry were released into some rivers running into sea by the Jikha Atlantic Salmon Pedigree Farm which turned out in the drive to implement thetasks set forth at the plenary meetings of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Officials and employees of the farm paid primary attention to laying material and technical foundations for putting the production of fry on a modern and scientific basis while giving priority to feeding on the basis of last year's experience.

They built a base for producing feed with their own efforts and technology to provide enough protein feed and pushed ahead with the work to build an animal-protein feed ground.

The farm manufactured new equipment to raise the hatching rate by more than 10 percent and introduced advanced fish farming technology to raise the survival rate and weight of fry.

Officials and employees of the farm are directing efforts to increasing fish resources including sturgeon and rainbow-trout, along with salmon fry. -0-
