Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- Last year, cities and counties in the DPRK launched the movement for winning the title of model county, which covers all fabrics of social life including education, regional industry, land and environment protection and law-abiding life, thus making progress in the development of their regions.

Huichon City in Jagang Province was awarded the title of model education city as it improved the contents and methods of teaching at schools and strengthened the material and technical foundations of education.

Cities and counties in South Phyongan, Kangwon, South Hamgyong and other provinces launched the movement for winning the title of model education county, thus making progress in building schools and improving the educational conditions and environment of branch schools.

Samjiyon City in Ryanggang Province was awarded the title of model regional-industry city as it further perfected the production lines of regional-industry factories and put their production on a normal footing with locally available raw materials. Kimhwa County in Kangwon Province was awarded the title of model county in regional budget system as it increased the budget revenue by developing regional industry and agriculture and improving service activities, thus achieving many successes in developing the regional economy and improving the people's standard of living.

The cities and counties, where modern regional-industry factories were built as the first creations of the regional development policy, put the production of the factories on a normal basis and made good results through the mass movement for developing new products.

Through the movement for winning the title of model commerce county to preserve the true nature of socialist commerce, many cities and counties, including Kaechon City in South Phyongan Province, spruced up commercial outlets and public service establishments and improved commerce and service.

Cities and counties worked out their long-term plans for turning their areas into model for land and environment protection and pushed forward the work to carry them out, thus making progress in land development and management such as afforestation, road construction, river improvement and environment protection.

Phyongchon District in Pyongyang Municipality and Kwail County in South Hwanghae Province won the title of model law-observance county (district). -0-
