Nam Gate of Kaesong, World Cultural Heritage

Pyongyang, December 8 (KCNA) -- The Nam Gate of Kaesong is the south gate of the inner wall of Walled City of Kaesong.

The gate, located in Pukan-dong, Kaesong Municipality, was built between 1391 and 1393 with the construction of the inner wall.

The gate was destroyed by the barbarous bombing of the U.S. imperialists during the Fatherland Liberation War and restored to its original state in 1954.

The gate consists of a rectangular plane embankment erected with granite, and of a gatehouse built on it.

The gatehouse is 13.63 meters long in the front and 7.96 meters long in the side.

There is the famous Yonbok Temple Bell in the gatehouse.

The roof is a hip-saddle one and has double eaves and the ridge, gable ridge, hip and surface form a beautiful curve.

The gate shows well the fine architecture of our people. -0-
