DIU, Historic Root of WPK

Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- October 17 is the 98th formation anniversary of the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU).

In the middle of the 1920s when he was conducting revolutionary activities at Hwasong Uisuk School, President Kim Il Sung tried to find a new way for achieving Korea's liberation.

He provided a hard-core force by rallying passionate youths with the same idea and purpose one by one and pushed ahead with the work to form a new-type vanguard organization.

He convened a preliminary meeting of hard-core members and discussed the name of the organization and its character, action program and regulations. On this basis, he formed the DIU, a vanguard organization for the revolution, with young communists of new generation on October 17, 1926.

The DIU, which declared the new start of the Korean revolution, set it its objective to down with the Japanese imperialism, achieve Korea's liberation and independence and, further, build socialism and communism in Korea.

The ideal of anti-imperialism, sovereignty, independence and socialism advanced by the DIU was the most correct one reflecting the demands of the Korean people to realize the national liberation and class liberation and build a prosperous, independent and sovereign state in Korea.

The formation of the DIU made the Korean people's revolutionary struggle enter a new road of its development and provided the historic root of the Workers' Party of Korea. -0-
