Pyongyang, December 26 (KCNA) -- The Western Maritime Research Institute under the State Hydro-Meteorological Administration in the DPRK intensifies the researches for developing and using marine resources, according to Minju Joson.
This year the institute carried out basic research tasks for ensuring the scientific accuracy, correctness and promptness of marine forecast at a high level and using marine energy in the West Sea of Korea. And it developed and introduced application programs while building up marine research data to step up the tideland reclamation.
It also completed a research on the method of evaluating the sedimentation in the downstream of the West Sea Barrage to make contribution to establishing a scientific and technological plan for ensuring the normal operation of the West Sea Barrage and the surrounding marine ecological environment. And it carried out a marine research task for installing and using underwater structures to contribute to building offshore structures.
Meanwhile, it fulfilled various marine research projects of great national significance, including the research for accurately predicting marine disasters, putting marine activities on a scientific basis and improving the work for protecting marine ecological environment and the research for solving the basic problems arising in putting the buoy observation on a scientific basis.
The institute is putting spurs to the marine scientific research conducive to the economic development of the country and the improvement of people's living standards, including the research for establishing a marine forecast system in the waters off the offshore farms in the West Sea and the research for estimating the tidal current power and marine wind energy resource. -0-
