Tourism in DPRK

Pyongyang, September 27 (KCNA) -- Today is the World Tourism Day.

Since the DPRK joined the World Tourism Organization in September Juche 76 (1987), it has paid deep attention to the development of tourism to develop friendship, cooperation and exchange with the peoples of different countries and provide its people with rich and civilized cultural and emotional life.

Tourism in the DPRK has entered the stage of new development under the wise guidance of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the government of the Republic.

Many excellent cultural and tourist facilities including the Masikryong Ski Resort have been built, injecting great vitality to the development of the country's tourism.

According to the far-reaching plan of the Workers' Party of Korea, the Wonsan Kalma coastal tourist area with the favorable conditions for coastal tourist activities is now being built more perfectly to be operated from next year.

The DPRK has pushed ahead with the work to expand and develop tourism in a long-term way on the basis of the experience gained in the construction of the Wonsan Kalma coastal tourist area.

It is taking long-term measures for making the positive use of various coastal tourist resources in the field of tourism in the future as it is bounded on two sides of the east and west by the sea and has beautiful scenic sites on the east coast including Mt. Kumgang, Mt. Chilbo, Majon, Kumya, Ri Won and Yombunjin.

The work to turn Samjiyon City of Ryanggang Province into a world-class mountainous tourist resort is also going on.

Such tourist resorts will contribute to providing the DPRK people and foreign tourists with diverse cultural and emotional life. -0-
