The world, due to the importance of the protection of migratory birds, set the second Saturday of May and October as world migratory birds day and is conducting activities for the protection of migratory birds and their habitats on these occasions.
The theme of this year is that Every Bird Counts - Your Observation Matter.
The DPRK is regarded as a major flyway of migratory birds and stoppage place on their way in Northeast Asia.
In recent years, the Biodiversity Institute under the State Academy of Sciences has made a comprehensive survey of migratory birds' stoppage places in Mundok, Kumya, Sindo and other migratory bird reserves during the spring and autumn migratory periods and their breeding state during summer.
Its research group made a field survey of all the migratory birds reserves in the country to clarify the recent state of the distribution of protected objects and their protection value. On this basis, it newly set migratory bird reserves and possible reserve sites through the ascertainment of the areas of the main migration distribution and completed the design of the network of migratory bird reserves helpful to increasing the area step by step.
The international exchange and cooperation for the protection of migratory birds have been conducted to make progress in studying the ecological activities of migratory birds and taking measures for their protection.
