Multiple Rocket Launchers Presented to KPA

Pyongyang, June 7 (KCNA) -- Schoolchildren in the DPRK provided "Sonyon" (child) multiple rocket launchers for the Korean People's Army (KPA), through their vigorous good-conduct movement launched to mark the 77th birthday of the Korean Children's Union (KCU).

A ceremony for presenting the "Sonyon" multiple rocket launchers took place in the courtyard of the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace on Tuesday.

Present there were Kim Su Gil, chief secretary of the Pyongyang Municipal Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), Ri Tu Song, department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, officials of the youth league, KPA men and officers, those involved in the letter of loyalty relay teams by KCU members from across the country and other schoolchildren.

Mun Chol, chairman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League, made a speech.

The speaker said it is a precious tradition shining with the 70-odd-year proud history of the KCU to prepare military hardware under the name of "Sonyon" and send them to the posts for national defence.

It is the bounden duty of schoolchildren who have happily grown up under the care of the Party to actively seek good things for the country, he said, calling for redoubling their patriotic enthusiasm to become reliable pillars who will shoulder the future of the socialist country.

A certificate of presenting "Sonyon" multiple rocket launchers was handed over to an officer of the KPA.

Then followed speeches.

Ri Ryong Jun, chairman of the KCU branch at Pyongyang Secondary School No. 1, and other speakers said that only when the People's Army is strong, can today's happiness and the future be reliably guaranteed, adding that they will as ever wage various good-conduct movements for the army more briskly and build up their bodies and minds to find themselves at the posts for defending the country.

On behalf of the KPA men and officers, Paek Il, a serviceperson, extended militant greetings to the KCU members across the country who provided the multiple rocket launchers, saying that the servicepersons will win only shining victories in the sacred war for defending the revolution and the people with warm patriotism and surging hatred toward the enemy.

At the end of the ceremony, the multiple rocket launchers left for units of the KPA amid the warm send-off by schoolchildren. -0-
