Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- October 14, 1945 is a significant day when President Kim Il Sung made a historic speech on his triumphal return to the homeland after achieving the historic cause of national liberation.

79 years ago, a Pyongyang mass rally welcoming the President was held at the then Pyongyang Public Playground.

When the President appeared on the platform, the people broke into thunderous cheers of "Hurrah for General Kim Il Sung".

He waved back to the cheering masses and made a speech "Every Effort for the Building of a New, Democratic Korea".

He said in his speech: This time has come when we Korean people have to unite our strength to build a new, democratic Korea. People from all strata should display patriotic enthusiasm and turn out to build a new Korea. All people who truly love their country, their nation and democracy must unite closely and build an independent and sovereign democratic state.

When his speech was over, the masses expressed support with their enthusiastic applause and cheers.

The speech was a patriotic appeal for the building of a genuine people's new country under the banner of unity and a solemn declaration heralding the start of independent, new democratic Korea. -0-
