Pyongyang, April 26 (KCNA) -- April 26 is World Intellectual Property Day.

The intrinsic characteristic of the intellectual property protection system of the DPRK is that it gives priority to the interests of the state and the collective, guarantees the interests of the creators and the right holders and promotes the development of science, technology and culture of the country.

Under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea, the regular system of guidance on intellectual property has been established in the country and the intellectual property protection system has been strengthened to provide the foundations and environment for promoting science and technology and economic development.

The law on intellectual property was adopted in September 2025 which allows the broad masses of the people to take part in the development and creation of technology, work with knowledge and technology, and contribute to the social progress and development.

Last year alone, hundreds of new technological achievements made in various economic sectors were registered as inventions.

Information activities have been conducted through the national industrial art exhibition, the intellectual property development exhibition, the seminar in the field of intellectual property, etc. to raise the public interest in this work.

Last year, the he WIPO National Inventor Award was conferred on a chief of Kim Il Sung University and an official of the Moksong External Construction Economic and Technical Cooperation who developed an intellectual product with an rare-earth element as the main raw material, the WIPO National Creation Award on a teacher of Kim Il Sung University who created a full-length novel "Make the Youth Green" and the WIPO National Children Award to a student of Changdok School who invented a science fiction model "Agricultural Robot".

The Korea Oriental Instant Pharmaceutical Company received the WIPO National Business Award as it produced many patent products, medicines and health foods.

The DPRK joined the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in August 1974. -0-
