Mt Komun, Cultural Recreation Ground for People

Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- Mt Komun is in Sakju County, North Phyongan Province of the DPRK.

The central area of the mountain forms a mixed forest, and the thick forest is inhabited by raccoon dogs, roe deer, squirrels and other species of animals.

There is the Magnolia obovata stock which is difficult to find in the country.

The stock called Sakju hwangmokryon was designated as Natural Monument No. 96 and has been protected.

In the eastern part of the mountain, there is Sakju Hot Spring.

In the 1920s, the inhabitants of the area built an open bath around it.

As the hot spring with high temperature and slight alkalinity is especially effective for treating various skin diseases, inflammation, heavy metal poisoning and neuralgia, a rest home was built in around 1956 to contribute to the improvement of the health of the working people.

The water temperature is about 59°C and its gushing amount is about 100 cubic meters per hour.

The valley is harmonized with crystal-clear water, mysterious rocks and cliffs and thick forest.

Thanks to the solicitude of the Workers' Party of Korea, various facilities conducive to the cultural recreation and health promotion of the people were wonderfully built in the mountain, giving pleasure to visitors. -0-
