Battle of Pochonbo

Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 89th anniversary of the historic Battle of Pochonbo organized and commanded by President Kim Il Sung during the anti-Japanese revolutionary war.

In the 1930s, the Japanese imperialists intensified their fascist suppression of our people.

Korea turned into a huge prison due to the Japanese imperialists' brutal atrocities of fabricating all sorts of evil laws and of arresting, imprisoning and killing people at random.

President Kim Il Sung decided to march to the homeland and attack a stronghold of the enemy as soon as possible in order to give confidence in the country's liberation to the Korean people suffering from a prolonged nightmare and encourage them to turn out in the war of resistance against Japan.

The gun report of Pochonbo rang out on June 4, 1937 thanks to the transparent and independent faith and indomitable will of the President.

With a gun report by the President as a signal, members of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army made a rapid assault and wiped out the enemy's ruling organs including the police sub-station in Pochonbo, one of the main military positions of the enemy and the centers of colonial rule and plunder in the border area.

After the Battle of Pochonbo, the President launched thrilling operations to wipe out the enemy in pursuit once again, leading the Battle on Mt Kouyushui and the Battle of Jiansanfeng to great victory.

Recollecting those battles, he wrote in his reminiscences "With the Century" that the Battle of Pochonbo demonstrated to the public at home and abroad the revolutionary will of our people to put an end to the Japanese imperialist colonial rule and win back national independence and sovereignty, and their indomitable fighting spirit.

The Battle of Pochonbo demonstrated to the whole world that Korea is alive. With the battle as an occasion, our people turned out more vigorously in the war of resistance against Japan. -0-
