International Women's Day Celebrated

Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- The 113th anniversary of March 8 International Women's Day was significantly celebrated across the DPRK.

The visitors to the plaza of the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, the sacred temple of Juche where President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il lie in state, recollected the benevolence of the great leaders who put forward the women as proud masters of the revolution.

A large number of people visited the statues of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il on Mansu Hill and mosaics picturing their smiling images in different parts of the country to lay floral baskets, bouquets and flowers before paying tribute to them.

Officials of provinces, cities, counties, institutions, industrial establishments and farms met and congratulated exemplary women workers of relevant units.

Colorful congratulatory performances and sports and amusement games took place in Pyongyang and local areas.

A concert was given by the National Symphony Orchestra at the Moranbong Theatre.

A music and dance performance was given by the Mansudae Art Troupe at the East Pyongyang Grand Theatre and an art performance by artistes of the Phibada Opera Troupe at the Pyongyang Grand Theatre.

A one-act play was given at the National Theatre and a performance by the National Folk Art Troupe at the Ponghwa Art Theatre.

An acrobatic performance was given by acrobats of the National Acrobatic Troupe at the Pyongyang Circus Theatre.

Members of the art squad of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League gave an outdoor performance at the Arch of Triumph plaza.

Celebration performances were given in North Phyongan, South Hwanghae, Kangwon, North Hamgyong, South Hamgyong and other provinces.

Women's union officials and members across the country revved up the festive atmosphere through colorful sports and amusement games.

Public catering establishments across the country were crowded with visitors.

Women received souvenirs and flowers from their husbands and children. -0-
