Pyongyang, May 29 (KCNA) -- Among the local intangible cultural heritage of the DPRK is Jongbangchae, a special dish of North Hwanghae Province.

Jongbangchae, a popular foodstuff made with salted radish, was registered as the local intangible cultural heritage in 2017 as it is of significance in inheriting and developing the dietary culture of our people.

The Jongbang Foodstuff Production Cooperative in Sariwon City produces side dishes such as pickles which our people have made with various kinds of vegetables from olden times.

Jongbangchae is associated with the care of President Kim Il Sung.

One day in May 1971, the President visited the foodstuff cooperative and praised its products.

He saw the foodstuff made with salted radish and personally named it "Jongbangchae".

Since then, the foodstuff has been well known throughout the country. -0-
