Pyongyang Raengmyon

Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- It is winter now.

But Okryu Restaurant in the capital city of the DPRK is crowded with people coming to taste Pyongyang Raengmyon (cold noodle).

Pyongyang Raengmyon is popular among the Korean people along with the name of Okryu Restaurant.

It is the primary dish favored by people even in cold winter, to say nothing of hot summer, for its unique taste and high nutritive value.

It is also termed by foreigners as a "food rare to be seen in the East and the rest of the world".

Tasting the cold noodle during their visit to the homeland, overseas compatriots would unanimously say that the visitors to Pyongyang would have regretted for a long time if they didn't taste Raengmyon.

It is said that even foreigners who had tasted Pyongyang Raengmyon in the DPRK want to taste it in their countries and that they do not forget the Korean word "kuksu (noodle)" although they may forget other Korean words they learnt in the DPRK.

On January 15 and on November 18, 1966, Chairman Kim Jong Il said that Pyongyang Raengmyon is the pride of Pyongyang and the DPRK, and taught how to make and eat it. And he instructed that Okryu Restaurant should strive to further develop the world-famous traditional Pyongyang Raengmyon. -0-
