Dissemination of Excellent Folk Tradition in South Hwanghae Province of DPRK

Pyongyang, October 22 (KCNA) -- South Hwanghae Province of the DPRK is widely disseminating the excellent folk tradition.

While finding intangible cultural heritages reflecting the manners and customs that have been handed down throughout history, the province is informing the working people, youth and students of the time-honored history and folk customs of the country.

The provincial art troupe is re-representing the folk song "Haeju Arirang", which has been handed down in the Hwanghae provincial area from ancient times, as male song and dance suited to the emotion and aesthetic tastes of the Korean people and disseminating it.

Haeju Restaurant and other public catering establishments of the province are encouraging Haeju rice mixed with spices and coriander kimchi which were registered as local intangible cultural heritages, and keeping alive their peculiar taste and fragrance, thus making them local specialties popular among all people.

Officials and researchers in relevant sectors of the province are transferring traditional methods and techniques for producing local specialties to newly-built regional-industry factories and condiments production units so as to help them make positive contributions to the people's life.

Cheerful peasant dancing parties are given at the ceremonies of moving into new houses at farms of the province and on other occasions. -0-
