Song Remembered by Peerlessly Great Man

Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- In the township of Kim Hyong Jik County, Ryanggang Province of the DPRK, there is a monument to "Song of the River Amnok". This is the song President Kim Il Sung had always remembered in the whole period of his great life.

Singing the song in his teens, the President crossed the Amnok River with his firm determination not to return home until Korea was liberated from the Japanese imperialists' aggression.

The day when he made a heavy step on the frozen river at the neck of the rapids down the Phophyong Ferry in Kim Hyong Jik County was February 3, 1925.

Recalling that time, he wrote in his reminiscences "With the Century" as follows:

As I sang this song, I wondered when I would be able to tread this land again, when I would return to this land where I grew up and where my forefathers' graves lay. Young as I was, I could not repress my sorrow at this thought.

One day in August 1938 when the President was waging the anti-Japanese armed struggle, he sang the "Song of the River Amnok" at the secret base in Kumchang not far from Phophyong to harden the Korean People's Revolutionary Army members' will for national liberation.

Along with this song, he embarked on the road of revolution in his early years and achieved the historic cause of national liberation on August 15, 1945 by waging the heroic anti-Japanese revolutionary war.

One day in September 1991, the President visited the Phophyong Revolutionary Site. That day, he sang the song, recollecting with deep emotion the time when he had ardently desired to retake the country as early as possible and make everything the eternal one of Korea.

He said on several occasions that his career as a revolutionary began with the song. In his reminiscences he wrote a section titled "Song of the River Amnok".

The Korean people are still singing the song with deep reverence for the President, telling about his exploits for national liberation. -0-
