Preparations for Paddy-field Fish Breeding Made in DPRK

Pyongyang, December 10 (KCNA) -- Rural areas of the DPRK are putting spurs to the preparations for next year's large-scale fish farming in paddy fields.

Pyongyang Municipality organized two demonstrations of the spawning grounds and rice fields for breeding fish in Mangyongdae District in November.

It chose more than 50 hectares of paddies for fish breeding, and finished making the rice paddies suited to do so.

While paying attention to securing seed fishes, the municipality took measures to improve their nutrition during the winter and to hatch the spawn well in spring. It pushed ahead with the efforts to secure the puffed feed production equipment and disinfect the paddies.

Farms in the lowlands, etc. of South Phyongan Province chose over a hundred hectares of rice fields for breeding fish, and completed making the paddy fields suited to the breeding of fishes. The province pays attention to laying the foundations for producing animal protein feed, while directing efforts to supplying the fish meal fodder.

In the cities and counties, officials in North Hamgyong Province made efforts to build the spawning grounds. As a result, more than 10 cities and counties finished the construction of the grounds.

Kangwon Province has already completed making over 240 hectares of paddy fields suited for fish farming and the province is taking practical measures to solve the problems arising in fish farming. So far the cities and counties have finished the construction of 100-odd square meters of hatching rooms.

Agricultural officials of South Hamgyong Province studied technical guidelines to acquire an ample knowledge of paddy-field fish breeding and applied advanced techniques and methods to practice.

North Hwanghae Province, Nampho Municipality and other parts of the country are striving to boost fish farming in paddy fields. -0-
