Pyongyang, November 6 (KCNA) -- "Sinau" is a folk instrumental music that has long been executed by folk instrumental troupes and individuals.
In the Hamgyong provincial area, it is called the thungso (Korean bamboo flute) music "Sinau".
"Sinau" was used as war music in the fight against enemies by famous thungso masters from olden times and played on folk holidays of the people.
This folk instrumental music reflects the patriotic thoughts and feelings and strong militant spirit of the Korean ancestors who demonstrated their wisdom and courage in the fight against foreign aggressors.
"Sinau" which was played only as folk instrumental music in the past has been now re-represented by orchestra and other forms of stage music, displaying great influence and vitality.
The folk instrumental music "Sinau" gives the audience courage and zest as it is filled with the feelings and emotions peculiar to the DPRK people.
It is popular among people for its strong coloring, dynamic melody and peculiar mood as it produces enchanting sound of thungso in harmony with drum, gong, Janggu, flute, haegum (a Korean fiddle) and tanso (a Korean short bamboo flute).
The folk instrumental music "Sinau" was registered as a national intangible cultural heritage this year. -0-
