Fishing Sector of DPRK Makes Substantial Progress

Pyongyang, June 30 (KCNA) -- Officials and workers in the fishing sector of the DPRK are making substantial progress.

Fishery stations across the country have introduced rational fishing methods and conducted an intensive fishing campaign to catch a large amount of fish.

The sea culture farms applied advanced methods to boost their daily output, thus registering high results in the production of seaweed and shellfish.

The Tanchon Dockyard is now concentrating on a dike project for tide-water control, and the Hongwon Shipyard has completed the power cable project badly needed for the repair of ships.

The Wonsan General Fishing Implement Factory is making final preparations to operate itself. And the Thongchon Fishery Station and others are pushing ahead with the modernization of themselves.

Scientists at the Academy of Fishery Science upgraded the existing information system for managing marine resources and made achievements in the research into improving scientific fishing-ground finding.

The Kaechon City Office for Stocking Rivers with Fishes and the Thaechon County Seed Mandarin Fish Station are breeding a lot of young mandarin fish.
