Metal Industry of DPRK Directs Efforts to Reinforcement Project

Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- Officials and workers in the metal industry of the DPRK strive to attain the goal of maintenance and reinforcement.

The Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex improved the performance of oxygen converters while stepping up the repair of buildings at the final stage. As its production capacity increased more than twice, the complex has made electrodes with raw materials abundant in the country to guarantee the implementation of the plan. It is also pushing ahead with the project for expanding the capacity with the main emphasis on satisfying the demand for fire-proof materials.

Workers and technicians at the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex are making full preparations for the test production at a new energy-saving oxygen blast furnace while carrying on the coolant-filling work for operation of the 15 000 cubic meters/h oxygen separator.

The Chollima Steel Complex is conducting in real earnest the work to install a new ultra-high-power electric furnace.

Similar successes are witnessed at the Chongjin Steel Plant and the Posan Iron Works. -0-
