Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery

Pyongyang, July 25 (KCNA) -- The Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery is located at the foot of Mt Sokbak in Pyongyang.

To convey long the worthwhile life of the defenders of the country in the 1950s who performed heroic feats in the sacred war for national defence, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un personally initiated the construction of the martyrs cemetery, chose its site and gave guidance to detailed elements such as a gatepost and wreath-laying stand as well as the layout.

Looking round the cemetery nearing completion, he said that graves had owners from olden times and that the Workers' Party of Korea is the owner of the graves of the known and unknown fallen fighters of the People's Army who laid down their lives in the Fatherland Liberation War, and put forward the heroic soldiers on the highest peak of glory and happiness.

Under his guidance, the cemetery could be built as a monument to the era of the Workers' Party conveying the warm love and revolutionary obligation of the Party for the revolutionary soldiers and a precious mental and moral legacy to be handed down to posterity forever.

At the inaugural ceremony of the Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery on July 25, 2013, Kim Jong Un paid noble tribute to the heroic soldiers and highly appreciated the heroic feats performed by the service personnel of the People's Army who sacrificed their lives without hesitation for the only country.

The cemetery consists of the gatepost, the wreath-laying stand "Soul of Heroes" and a monument to the poem dedicated to the memory of heroic soldiers, group sculptures and graves of martyrs with the Memorial Tower for the Fallen Soldiers of the KPA as the center.

Today the cemetery instills into the people the mass heroism displayed by the victors of the great years and their spirit of defending the country. -0-
