Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- In November, there are the beginning of winter and the light snowfall as the 19th and 20th of the 24 seasonal divisions according to the lunar calendar.
The beginning of winter falls on November 7 or 8 and the light snowfall on November 22 or 23 in the solar calendar.
This year, the beginning of winter is November 7 and the light snowfall November 22.
Peculiar custom in the Korean people's diet in the said seasonal divisions is kimchi-making.
People used to make kimchi before and after the beginning of winter and so, November has been called kimchi-making month.
From olden times, the Korean people have attached great importance to kimchi-making, whose characteristics differ in every province in the way of making kimchi and in its taste.
They also made and ate dumplings with pickle stuffing, fermented fish and pop-rice cakes.
In those days, the Korean ancestors made preparations for wintering like repairing Korean hypocausts, while finishing yearly farming, including thrashing in the yard, drying, pounding and storing grains.
The folk games in those days were yut-game, Paduk, Korean chess and other indoor games, and kite-flying and shuttlecock game favoured by children. -0-
